PTC Donates $60K to Local Charities

Peninsula Town Center Donates $60,000 to Local Charities

Six groups receive $10,000 each from 2011 parking meter proceeds

Hampton, Va. – Last January, Peninsula Town Center (PTC) chose six local non-profit organizations to participate in “Change for Charity,” a program in which a portion of funds collected from parking meters and parking tickets is evenly distributed to the groups at the end of the year. PTC is proud to announce that each organization will receive a $10,000 donation.

The six benefiting groups, which were chosen based on their impact on the Peninsula, focus on youth and family causes and financial stability, include: Alternatives, Inc., American Red Cross (Hampton Roads Chapter), Center for Child and Family Services (Hampton), Habitat for Humanity (Peninsula Chapter), Hampton Education Foundation and Junior League of Hampton Roads.

“After another successful year, we are thrilled to be able to make this donation,” says Raymond Tripp, general manager of Peninsula Town Center. “We take pride in being able to give back to the community in such a big way, and we hope our guests feel good about their contributions through feeding the parking meters.”

The 2012 Change for Charity participants include: Youth Challenge of Hampton Roads, The Arc of the Virginia Peninsula, Healthy Families Partnership (Hampton), Peninsula Agency on Aging, Inc., USO of Hampton Roads and Children’s Hospital of Kings Daughters (CHKD).

A luncheon was held on Feb. 2 at PTC’s Community Room where each organization was recognized and donations were dispersed.

The Change for Charity program also supports a variety of nonprofit programs and fundraisers throughout the year. In 2011, PTC hosted the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Light the Night” walk, “Walk a Mile In Her Shoes” to benefit the Center for Sexual Assault Survivors, the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula’s Mayflower Marathon food drive, the Youth Challenge of Hampton Roads Drug Prevention Music Festival and weekly blood drives with the American Red Cross. Many more community events will be added in 2012.
