Local Charity To Give Chesapeake Schools Economic Boost
JCA Foundation Donates Thousands to Area Title 1 Schools
CHESAPEAKE, Va. (February 20, 2012)- Several Chesapeake Title 1 schools will receive some much-needed financial support from a local charity tomorrow. The James C. Archbell III Foundation, a non-profit arm of Chesapeake-based A&W Contractor’s, Inc., will present 8 area school principals with checks totaling more than $8,000 during a media event on Tuesday, February 21 at 4:00 p.m. at 530 Woodlake Circle, Chesapeake.
In addition to the cash donations, the Foundation will also stock each school with supplies like construction paper and pencils, as well as provide “hygiene baskets” containing assortments of toothpaste, soap, lotion, shampoo and other toiletries.
Administrators say they plan use the money to purchase additional school supplies for some of their less fortunate students, educational materials and other classroom necessities. “Students right here in our backyard go without basic necessities on a daily basis and the JCA Foundation is determined to make a difference in these children’s lives,” says James Archbell, President of A&W Contractors, Inc. and the founder of the non-profit organization. “These kids are our future and we need to equip them with the tools and supplies they need to succeed in school and in life,” Mr. Archbell adds.
The Foundation makes significant financial contributions throughout the year with the organizations most recognized event, an annual holiday shopping spree called Kidz Kruz, taking place each December. Just last week the Foundation donated two BMX bikes to a local middle school that in turn awarded the wheels to students recognized for making academic strides. Mr. Archbell and his Foundation plan to continue rewarding the two students who read the most books throughout the year, from each of the 8 participating schools, with a BMX bike as an incentive in the Accelerated Reading Program.Participating schools this year include: Oscar Smith Middle School, Sparrow Road Elementary, Georgetown Primary, Truitt Intermediate, Thurgood Marshall Elementary, G.A. Treakle Elementary, Crestwood Intermediate and Camelot Elementary.
