Roc Solid to Host 4th Annual Gala

ROC SOLID TO HOST 4th ANNUAL

NIGHT FOR THE FIGHT FUNDRAISING GALA

Portsmouth, Va. – Local non-profit Roc Solid Foundation is widely known for its efforts to support children battling cancer. On March 31, its premier annual fundraiser, A Night for the Fight, will take place at 7 p.m. at the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame (206 High Street, Portsmouth).

Eric Newman, a pediatric cancer survivor himself, founded Roc Solid in 2008 with the goal of developing programs to support children with cancer. Since that time, the organization has constructed 24 playsets for pediatric cancer patients in Hampton Roads through “Play It Forward,” a program funded solely through sponsorships and Roc Solid’s fundraising events.

Roc Solid announced its newest initiative in November, the Roc Solid Ready Bag, which is given to families who have a child that’s recently been diagnosed with cancer and includes everything they might need for an unexpected hospital stay. With the help of CHKD, the program has already seen success and the organization hopes to expand it into new markets nationwide.

With a $75 donation, guests at A Night for the Fight will enjoy a silent auction, live music, and heavy hors d’ oeuvres.  Roc Solid’s fundraising goal this year is $30,000, which will fund 12 Play it Forward playsets, 125+ Roc Solid Ready Bags, as well as other Roc Solid programs, like the iPad Project and Cancer Free Parties.

Sponsorships are available for A Night for the Fight, including a presenting sponsorship for $5,000. For more information about sponsorship opportunities, please visit www.rocsolidfoundation.org.

“It’s exciting to see this event and our organization grow each year,” says Newman. “We couldn’t do it without the generosity of local businesses and individuals. Their support makes it possible for us to add fun and build hope in the lives of pediatric cancer patients.”

"From conception of Peninsula Town Center, our vision has been to become an integral part of our community. In an area so rich in history and extraordinary leadership, the Mary's Park dedication was a shining example of Joel Rubin's ability to brilliantly bring this vision to life."
