Chesapeake Seeing "Rewards"

For Immediate Release

City of Chesapeake starting to see the “Rewards” with Perks program

TFC Recycling Perks program is making an impact

Chesapeake, VA- September 26, 2011- Four-months after launching the first city-wide recycling rewards program in the region, TFC Recycling, in partnership with Recycling Perks, is saving municipalities and residents as promised.

Participation in the Recycling Perks program has tripled this quarter with close to 15% of the city households participating.   In Chesapeake, and in Suffolk, where the Recycling Perks program only started earlier in early September, residents are cashing in recycling participation points for rewards to restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, hardware and sporting goods stores as well as area attractions. Households can realize savings up to $300 a year with Recycling Perks.

The quantity of recyclable materials collected in the City of Chesapeake has increased more than 600,000 pounds since the rewards program began in May.

“We are excited that residents are enjoying the Recycling Perks program and are really pleased to see some very positive increases in recycling,” says Elizabeth Vaughn, Public Works Information Specialist for the City of Chesapeake.

Homeowners in Chesapeake and Suffolk can sign-up for Recycling Perks online and start saving money with their rewards immediately. “The program is designed to reward   residents who currently recycle at home while encouraging others to participate,” says Bill Dempsey, President of Recycling Perks. “These cities have embraced recycling in a very positive and proactive manner, and we’re thrilled to see this connection between the launch of our rewards program and an increase in curbside participation, making it a win-win for the community and environment.”

“Recycling Perks has a bright future. Serving the community both environmentally and offering financial incentives to its citizens and businesses,” says Mr. Cannon, an excited Chesapeake resident. “’Your responsiveness to my questions rather than the cook book response ‘someone will get back to you within 2 business days’ means a lot to us users.”’

Residents of Chesapeake and Suffolk that would like to claim their rewards can do so through in their free account at www.recyclingperks.com
