TowneBank to host Paperboy Reunion

TOWNEBANK TO HOST ‘PAPERBOY REUNION’

WITH AUTHOR RICH BABBITT

Suffolk, Va. – When TowneBank Chairman and CEO Bob Aston discovered Rich Babbitt’s book From Paperboy to Boomer, it resonated with him.  Like Babbitt, he has fond memories of growing up with the responsibility of working a paper route in Hampton Roads.  As a result, TowneBank will host the kick-off event for Babbitt’s media and book-signing tour of Hampton Roads.

On Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., the public is invited to a “Paperboy Reunion” at TowneBank’s Member Service Center, located at 6001 Harbour View Blvd. in Suffolk. The event is an opportunity for former paperboys to share stories and to meet the author, while enjoying light refreshments.

The book’s complete title is From Paperboy to Boomer: How Lessons Learned from Paper Routes and Lawn Mowing Have Shaped 10 Skill Sets of Today’s Leaders. Released earlier this month by Dementi Milestone Publishing in Richmond, it describes how early teenage jobs instilled business knowledge and a strong work ethic among the baby boomer generation.

“While we were only 13 and 14 years old, these jobs taught the basic skills of becoming successful business people, including self-initiative, self-motivation and self-discipline,” says Babbitt, who grew up in the Churchland area of Portsmouth. “The book highlights a number of stories about Churchland that I think locals can relate to.”

Babbitt recently completed a book-signing tour of the Richmond area, where he currently resides.

“This book really struck a chord with me,” says Aston. “Having responsibility at a young age is critical to the development of business skills.  Rich does a great job of capturing that idea in a nostalgic way that people my age can appreciate and relate to.”

Following the event at TowneBank, Babbitt will do a book-signing from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Book Owl, located at 5772 Churchland Blvd. in Portsmouth.

Babbitt has been featured in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Fifty Plus Magazine and Virginia Living, as well as on ABC’s Good Morning Richmond (TV-8 WRIC). For more information about Rich Babbitt and From Paperboy to Boomer, including book reviews, visit www.BoomersBook.biz.
