Holiday Light Show at Lynnhaven Mall
Will be Largest in Virginia
Lynnhaven Lights to Debut November 11 and Continue
Nightly Through December 24 in Center Court
(VIRGINIA BEACH, VA) November 4, 2011- Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach will be a feast for the eyes and ears each night this holiday season, as Center Court plays host to the largest indoor holiday light and sound show in Virginia.
Starting with a Grand Illumination at 7 p.m. on Friday November 11, Lynnhaven Lights will feature 50,000 energy efficient LED bulbs, going on and off to music pulsating through a 2,000 watt rock concert quality sound system. The five-minute long show will be performed in Center Court at the top of each hour from 5-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and from 5-7 p.m. on Sundays through Christmas Eve.
At 6p.m. on November 11 only, there will be musical performances by the Doorway Singers, which are Victorian dressed carolers; the Tra La Trio, a female acapella group; and the internationally acclaimed Hunt Family from Chesapeake, featuring seven talented children and their parents. Lynnhaven Mall’s Santa Claus will countdown the last few seconds to the start of the 7 p.m. light and sound show. As part of the grand finale of this year’s Grand Illumination, there will be a special performance by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
Producing Lynnhaven Lights took 10,000 mouse clicks to program and will require 14 computers and 10 miles of electrical wire to operate. However, the show will draw no more power than that used to run three vacuum cleaners. “We are very excited to bring this amazing entertainment to Hampton Roads,” says John Westbrook, General Manager of Lynnhaven Mall. “With 180 stores, 17 restaurants and an 18-screen AMC theater, the mall is already a great shopping, dining and entertainment destination. With Lynnhaven Lights, it will be even more spectacular.”
The mall is partnering with WWDE-FM (2WD) to promote Lynnhaven Lights. The station will solicit names of families in the area who are “shining lights” in their own right to have the opportunity to “start” the show each Thursday at 6 p.m. beginning November 17 and continuing every Thursday, with the exception of Thanksgiving, until Christmas. 2WD will announce the name of the chosen family each Thursday morning. Nominations of families who give of themselves to help others in the area can be made on the 2WD Facebook page. The public is invited to meet the families during the five Lynnhaven Lights Community Nights.
Lynnhaven Mall is owned and managed by General Growth Properties, one of the nation’s largest shopping center owners. GGP has ownership and management interest in 166 regional and super regional shopping malls in 43 states. The company portfolio totals 169 million square feet of space.
