Suffolk is urging homeowners interested in convenient, Big Bin curbside recycling to sign up by Earth Day on Thursday April 22.
In January the City, in partnership with TFC Recycling, kicked-off a campaign to collect the names of 3,000 residents. So far about 2,000 residents have done so on the City’s or TFC’s websites (www.suffolk.va.us or www.tfcrecycling.com/suffolk). “We are eager to begin the subscription program in Suffolk,” says Ed Farmer, vice president of business development at TFC Recycling. “But we must also be fiscally responsible, which is why we are doing all we can to make people aware of this opportunity.”
After Earth Day TFC Recycling will contact all those who signed up and request billing information. “At that point, we will know how many people have made a serious commitment, and we can make a thoughtful and final determination as to whether and when to inaugurate Big Bin curbside recycling in Suffolk.”
Households that register for the service, which is $12 per month, will receive a 95-gallon bin, similar to the size of containers now in use in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake. For that fee, they will receive the Big Bin, which can accommodate mixed paper (newspapers, magazines, unwanted mail and inserts), cardboard, paperboard, aluminum and steel/tin cans, plastic bottles and glass containers. TFC will pick up in all areas of the city every-other-week on the day of their normal trash pick-up.
TFC Recycling is locally owned and operated recycling and waste removal company, providing residential and commercial recycling and waste removal. Established in 1973, TFC Recycling believes “it’s not how many customers we serve, but how we serve our customers.” TFC Recycling employs more than 400 people and recycles more than 40 million pounds of material each year.
