Virginia Beach, Va. – The 2nd annual Virginia Beach Bar Foundation’s Law Day Gala will be held on May 7 at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts. The affair, to last from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., will feature a presentation by award-winning presidential historian, Michael Beschloss.
Beschloss’ topic will be “Lincoln’s Bicentennial – A Legacy of Liberty.” A renowned author, Beschloss is working on a book examining Abraham Lincoln’s final days to be published by Simon & Schuster.
Beschloss has authored eight other books on the presidency, the most recent being “The Conquerors: Roosevelt, Truman and the Destruction of Hitler’s Germany, 1941-1945.” The book was a New York Times bestseller. His work has received glowing reviews from The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Newsweek and New Yorker magazine.
Recently named the presidential historian for NBC News, Beschloss makes regular appearances on Meet the Press, The Today Show, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer and other network programs. He received an Emmy in 2005 for the Discovery Channel's "Decisions That Shook the World."
A trustee of the White House Historical Association and the National Archives Foundation, Beschloss also sits on the boards of the University of Virginia's Miller Center for Public Affairs and the Smithsonian's Museum of American History. He sits on the advisory board to the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission and was formerly a trustee of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation.
Law Day was created by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958 as a "day of national dedication to the principle of government under law."
The Virginia Beach Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Virginia Beach Bar Association, champions equal access to our system of justice and promotes education on the protection of freedoms.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for the Foundation’s Law Day event. All sponsors will be recognized on the Virginia Beach Bar Foundation’s web site for one year, and listed in the Virginia Beach Bar Association Newsletter.
